Embarking upon this journey in 1999, most of our early installations were associated with the development of a better and more hygienic approach to confectionery retailing – “pick and mix” in cinemas and other leisure venues throughout Europe. Leading to large roll outs in supermarkets, by 2005 experience form the North American grocery sector changed our focus to all pourable and scoopable products and the rest is all about our accumulated experience in this sector.

- Our parent company manufactures bespoke joinery and installs beautiful interiors for Healthcare, Cinema, Residential and Commercial markets. Martek has been established for close to 40 years and all of our fixturing units are manufactured from sustainably sourced FSC® and/or PEFC grade wood by us, at our production facility, in the UK.

Sustainability
At Martek Zero Waste we care about reducing waste, eliminating single-use plastic, and protecting our world’s precious resources.
Our mission is to develop sustainable solutions to help eliminate unnecessary single-use plastic from the supply of food products and minimise waste. In addition to the things that we do as a committed team, we currently support three initiatives: Tree planting, The Ocean Clean Up and The Great Green Wall.
Experts predict that eight million tons of plastic goes into the ocean each year. 80% of ocean pollution comes from land, and single-use plastic packaging makes up a massive part of this.
Tree Planting
We plant trees regularly through Ecologi, including a tree for every sale (no matter how small). We all know that one of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees. Ecologi partners with The Eden Reforestation Projects, which grow millions of trees worldwide each month, whilst taking part in vital carbon reduction projects. Ocean Clean Up
More than 600 marine species are impacted by the plastic in our oceans. A proportion of the plastic gets caught in a vortex of circulating currents, creating enormous floating garbage patches. The plastic afloat across the oceans will not go away by itself, so we support The Ocean Clean Up project, as their goal is to clean 90% of the plastic in the Oceans by developing advanced cleanup technologies.
The Great Green Wall Project
This incredible African-led movement has an epic ambition to grow a broad belt of trees across the width of Africa. Providing vegetation and fertile land across the Sahel, once complete, the Great Green Wall will be the largest living structure on the planet, three times the size of the Great Barrier Reef. This project tackles the devastating effects of the climate crisis and decertification. It is a global symbol demonstrating how we can work with nature in challenging places to build a better world for generations to come.

Having worked with Carbon Smart for several years, we were immensely proud to achieve Gold accreditation in 2018. This accreditation reflects the steps we have taken to minimise our impact on the world’s resources and our commitment to not wasting anything.
